According to girlscoutshop.com, “In Girl Scouts, a pin signifies the fulfillment of membership requirements. Other pins are awarded to signify completion of work on a major project that correlates to the award level.”
Troop 2506 is Bonners Ferry and Moyie Springs Girl Scout troop. The troop girls have fulfilled their membership requirements and learned the meaning of what is means to be a Girl Scout. Thursday night was a big night for them all; the night the girls receive their pins. Normal standard of practice states that Troop Leader Susie will hand them out to each girl. Susie McDonald or Miss Susie as she is called, a former Girl Scout herself, wanted a bit of pomp and circumstance to make the girls feel more accomplished. The Moyie Springs City Clerk, Donna Wilson-Funkhouser was given the distinguished honor of pinning each girl. The smiles and pride beaming out of each girl as Miss Donna pinned that pin on their uniform, was priceless.
“I wanted the girls to feel they had worked for it.” Susie says, “Learn the Promise. The laws. To epitomize what a true Girl Scout is. It’s not all about cookie season. It’s about friendship, loyalty, honor and being able to help when called upon. It’s about taking our role as a Girl Scouts very seriously but also with pride. I wanted them to truly understand the meaning of what a Girl Scout really is. The girls have achieved so much in such a short time. Long will it continue.”
Troop 2506 has big plans for the year. With two camping trips on the calendar and monthly trips to the Extended Care Facility at Boundary Community Hospital, they will be busy little bees. They will also be selling cookies and volunteering at the local markets. You can find out what more the girls are up to, sign up or place an order for cookies by calling Miss Susie at 986-205-9805 or sending an email to Girlscouts2506@gmail.com.
