The National Weather Service, Spokane, has issued a flood watch for North Idaho and eastern Washington from 10 p.m. today to 4 a.m. Tuesday, and the Idaho Panhandle Avalanche Center has issued a backcountry avalanche watch for Boundary, Bonner and Shoshone Counties through 6 a.m. Sunday as temperatures warm and a spell of rain moves in.
An atmospheroic river is expected to bring moderate rainfall tonight into Monday with daytime high temperatures in the low to mid 40s and lows in the mid-30s in Bonners Ferry, which means excessive runoff that could flood waterways and low-lying areas.
In the high country, the snowline will likely rise to between 6,000 to 7,000 feet and a combination of high winds, rain and heavy, wet snow will destabilize the snow pack and cause a widespread cycle of avalanches.
