UPDATE: 1:29 p.m. Monday, April 21 — It was an amazing weekend for Isaiah. His mom, Maygen says they are in a regular room and working with physical therapists, who got him into a wheelchair on Sunday for a walk to the open air observation room, where he enjoyed his first fresh air since the horrendous crash one week ago.
He spontaneously began urinating on his own and will see a urologist today to discuss removing his abdominal catheter, after which he will regain his strength with more physical therapy until he’s ready to come home, possibly later this week.
Maygen and Isaiah both express their sincere thanks for the prayers, love and support of the community for making their ordeal bearable.
But their need won’t end when Isaiah is released and able to come home. Please continue to pray, and continue to give.
UPDATE: 2:52 p.m. Friday, April 18 — “Just keep the prayers up,” Maygen Reid asks for her son, Isaiah. “He’s awake and remembers everything so please keep the prayers his heart is broken just like his body.” He is moving out of ICU and into a regular room today.
UPDATE: 8:36 a.m. Thursday, April 17 — Maygen sends news this morning that Isaiah is slowly showing some improvement. He had surgery on Tuesday to put two screws in his pelvis to stabilize it. He had his chest tube out yesterday and that hurt pretty bad so they gave him some more pain meds to help. They’d been slowly decreasing it to get him to wake up a little more. They were talking about taking the ventilator off him today but we won’t know until rounds if they still plan on that or not.
He’s still losing blood a little so he’s had a few transfusions but they aren’t so worried about it because of the injuries to his spleen and pelvis they figure it’s just oozing a little. No blood in his abdomen.
“I’m just so grateful to everybody who is giving their prayers and time and the care the community has for my son and myself,” Maygen wrote. “How many people’s lives Bob had such an impact on.”

Maygen Reid’s world was upended Monday morning.
Bob Copeland and her son, Isaiah, 13, were out working together as they often did. They’d left Turner Plumbing to go south for parts for the Turner Plumbing sign they were repairing, a dynamic duo, a team. Isaiah at his happiest, being with Bob, learning, helping.
In moments all was asunder.
Hit from behind, Bob’s Chevy work rig was pushed into the northbound lane and into the path of an elderly Coeur d’Alene couple in a northbound Honda Ridgeline pickup. Both vehicles burst into flames and shuddered to an uncontrolled stop, the lives of two families sundered irrevocably micro-seconds into the unimagined maelstrom of the tragedy.
Bob Copeland, 50, was dead. His compadre, his young friend, his son, hurt terribly, a medical aircraft “circling overhead” until a first responder called in coordinates and the helo pilot adjusted time of arrival.
According to his mother, Maygen Reid, Isaiah was LifeFlited to a Spokane hospital in critical condition, with a fractured pelvis, bruised lung with a chest tube, injured spleen, and a pretty large laceration on the back of his head. He’s intubated and sedated for now and that will be like that for a couple days.
“Bob was the love of my life and I would give anything to get him back,” Maygen said. “Not just for myself but for that boy in the ICU fighting. He was his best buddy. I ask for prayers at this time for my son and Bob’s family!”
9B.News has established a GoFundMe account on Maygen and Isaiah’s behalf, and all funds contributed will go to Maygen to help as she puts her and Isaiah’s life back together. 9B.News will donate the GoFundMe fees so Maygen and Isaiah will receive the full amount of each donation.
