The “liberals” are marching. After 10 years of mostly lying low as the era of Donald Trump here in “Trump Country” grew ever more bizarre and inimical to the concept of democracy, they hoped there had to be a bottom somewhere. They waited in vain for some brave soul to stand up and say to Trump and MAGA, “Have you no decency?”
Realizing there may well be no bottom and that no hero would be forthcoming, about 20 people stepped out into a cold wind on the Kootenai River Bridge today, signs held high.
“Courage is Contagious — Speak up!!!” “No king — Save our Democracy,” “America needs Republicans with integrity to stand up for democracy,” “Elvis is America’s only king!”
While not great in number, today’s showing is indication that Trump and MAGA don’t have as firm a grip on ruby red Boundary County as they seem to think they do.
A tipping point has been reached after just 90 days into president Trump’s second term, not just in Bonners Ferry but nationwide. People who look at what he is doing rather than believe what he says now realize there is no bottom, no plan, no ideas except those of regression promulgated by the Heritage Foundation.
The 20 went out today not knowing the reception they’d receive.
“Although we eventually got more than 20 who showed up,” one participant said, “we were amazed that we got dozens of cars honking and waving approval and only three with the middle finger gesture. I welcome that as a hopeful sign for Boundary County.”
But the finger wavers remain adamant.
“To the 15 people out protesting to ‘save democracy’ and mad at the election results,” one posted to Facebook. “I’m not sure it has dawned on you yet that the very fact that you are freely allowed to be there waving your angry signs shows that ‘democracy’ is just fine. It is a point to note we are a Representative Republic, not a strict democracy. But further note that you got 15 people of the at least 12,000 living in pretty conservative Boundary County, hardly a massive mandate. Oh, and I counted … 15. As a final note, plenty I disliked in extreme levels during the Biden years, and those that disagreed were called disparaging names and called ‘election deniers,’ so are you folks now election deniers? Why are you all so mad about stuff like this, from my hometown? I am thankful the current administration put an end to this garbage … the fact that you are literally protesting these kind of changes makes me really question your integrity. It’s real, it’s current, it’s happening, and it’s because of the pro-tranny worship.”
These are truly unhappy people. Like the ones burning Tesla dealerships and Republican Headquarters, these sad people are constantly enraged about everything. The election is over. You lost. Act like adults and move on.
I suppose we can expect disruptive behavior for at least the next four years…
Oh, brother, MP, are you going to tell everyone who you are, or are you going to hide behind initials, and are even those yours? Did you mean to imply that Trump “acted like an adult” after he lost to Biden and Biden’s win and Trump’s loss was proven overwhelmingly in more than 50 court decisions? BTW, I consider anger against Trump for spitting on the Constitution and rule of law to enrich himself and other billionaires as a sign of a functioning, healthy mind. Saturday, I was joyful in the company of like-minded folks standing up for our democratic republic.
