Tuesday’s Trouble women’s bowling league sent eight players to the Idaho State Championships. The event was held on three separate weekends and in two cities to accommodate all bowlers. The Bonners Ferry group was assigned April 5-6.
The first day the Tuesday’s Trouble ladies competed in the doubles and singles competitions at Orchards Lanes in Lewiston. Highlights of the day were the team of Evelyn Smith and Kathy Konek placing 61st of 112 teams. Smith bowled two doubles and a turkey (three strikes in a row) in one game, setting her up for a very fine total.
In the singles competitions, bowlers were split by averages. Alice VanGundy, in the 149 or less category, placed 40th of 217 entered, tying Andrea Sprague of Chubbuck, Idaho. They were also split out by age; under 50, 50+ (Seniors) and over 70 (Super Senior). VanGundy is a Super Senior, as were three other teammates, and she placed 28th out of 50.
The second day found the ladies just across the river at Lancer Lanes in Clarkston, Washington. Bowling under the name of “Far North,” they entered two four-person teams. The team of VanGundy, Sumpter, Smith and Konek would tame the lanes as they tied the Gutter Gals from Post Falls for 23rd of the 53 teams entered. Liz Cada, DaVonna Cada, Donna Kent and Kathy Scott made up the second team and showed that they too can bowl with the best.
Adding all scores together for the weekend, Marie Sumpter was 50th of 172 who had an average score under 149 and 33rd of 102 in the senior category.
The ladies look forward to the new lanes that Liberty Lanes will be installing this summer and for more fun next season!
