In response to Moon’s ‘Fighting the good fight’

By Mike Weland

Mike WelandIn her opening paragraph, Dorothy Moon is absolutely right. But in gaslighting, that’s how you reel in the gullible. It’s how you brainwash the susceptible.

Consider the battle Trump faces today. The Heritage Foundation, not the people, set his “mission.” And regardless of his mission, he is obligated by the constitution he’s out to destroy to “take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed.”

In that, he has proven in the first three months of his second term egregiously derelict, amassing to himself powers not his, attempting to amend the constitution on a whim to end birthright citizenship, depriving people their liberty without due process of law, pardoning those convicted for their actions in the insurrection he incited, dismantling agencies created by Congress and more, holding one religion above others, one race, marginalizing citizens on the basis of sexual orientation, using the power and offices of government to attain personal retribution,

All the while lying, twisting the meaning of words, obfuscating what should be clear.

Trump sycophant Dorothy Moon has mastered the arts of her mentor, blaming the “militant left” for the sins of her faction, accusing them of that for which she bears guilt.

Consider the battle Trump faces today. Were he to abide his duties and oath of office, he would not be facing the onslaught of challenges so timidly trying to rein in his lawlessness. Truth is found in what is done, and Trump has done little but generate words.

You are right again, Dorothy. when political leaders violate the law, there must be consequences. Trump may have special dispensation that places him above the law, but he can still be held to account.

And here in Boise, HB96 — but one of the many idiotic, useless wastes of time pushed forth by the radical right that occupied the time of the legislative session just ended — one of the worst legislative sessions in state history.

Dorothy, you can’t legislate your morality on others and expect your law to be obeyed on something as frivolous as what symbolic piece of fabric you can display. Notice how the radical right we’ve elected seems more intent on how you think than what you do? And they speak of freedom and liberty.

You are right, Dorothy, the task of defending our liberties won’t be accomplished in one fell swoop. It must be carried out day by day, until we pass it down to our children and grandchildren.

Ronald Reagan did remind us, every generation must fight that same fight. And as Thomas Paine warned that if any of us shrinks from the service of our country, we risk losing everything our ancestors fought to secure.

We stand once again on that precipice, with an enemy threatening our constitution, our Democracy and our legal system, gaslighting and brainwashing the gullible and susceptible with lies masquerading as truth. That enemy is once again domestic, it is radical.

We the people have the power, and though Trump, who reigns on fear, division and hate. won a whisker-thin victory, we have the majority that could be far more fearsome than the loud and obnoxious bluster of MAGA.
