Nearly everyone in Boundary County knows of Simple Simons Pizza. They have dine in and delivery options and some of the best chicken wings in North Idaho. Now, you will have to get those chicken wings and famous pizza from Misty Mountain Pizza!
The franchise contract has been voided, and owners Mike and Kim Kupper are now an independent pizza parlor.
They purchased the Simple Simon franchise in 2019 with big plans for the future. After the great pandemic hit, the market changed and being tied to a franchise didn’t seem like what God was calling them to.
After a number of “God” moments over the next few years, Mike and Kim had confirmation that voiding the contract with the Simple Simon franchise was exactly what they needed to do.
In God’s timing, a building fell into their laps, people in the community came out of the woodwork to offer their services and it all fell into place.
“God was in it the whole time,” Mike says. “Every little thing that we needed and many things we didn’t know we needed at the time; God provided.”
But, with all the changes that are inevitable when you own a small business, there was one constant: Manny Castro-Rios, the heart and soul of what is now and will forever be known as Misty Mountain Pizza.
“Manny has been our manager for over five years,” Kim said. “He is by far one of the hardest working people around and goes above and beyond the call of duty to keep the shop running smoothly. He has mentored countless young people over the years to work hard and take pride in their work. One of the goals we have at Misty Mountain is to have our employees become better workers for the next season of their lives and he is an integral part of that process. He is a friendly face, a fixture and the heart of Misty Mountain Pizza. We don’t know what we would do without him.”
Misty Mountain is community. Local businesses are at the heart of Misty Mountain; from local artists displaying their art, to Jamie Fulton at Wildwood Leatherworks creating the signage, to partnering with Chappa Chicken Ranch to make dough.
“We want to keep it as local as possible,” Mike said.
Mike, Kim and all the staff at Misty Mountain Pizza invite you to grand re-opening shindig on May 31 all day long with free root-beer floats and more. Details to come.
