A live fire training day will be held from 7 a.m. to at least 1 p.m. tomorrow in Bonners Ferry that will involve all seven fire departments in Boundary County. The old house at 6745 Denver Street behind Mountain Springs Church will be burned down Saturday, April 26, but not before county firefighters set and extinguish the fires several times to gain very valuable training on the tactics, techniques and procedures for extinguishing a house fire..
Training will start at 7 a.m. with final prep work until the house is lit. It will extinguished, re-ignited and allowed to burn several times until it is allowed to burn down under the watchful eye of firefighters.
These live burns are really rare because someone has to essentially donate their house to be destroyed as a training prop. Extensive preparation is done to the house to make it safe before training, and firefighters have already been training there for several weeks now in preparation for the big day tomorrow.
