Sheriff’s office inundated with crank calls

Boundary County Sheriff badgeThe Boundary County Sheriff’s Office is issuing an urgent public notice regarding the misuse of our non-emergency dispatch line. Over the past several days, our dispatch center has received approximately 100 abusive calls, including threats, profanity, and derogatory name-calling directed at our dispatchers and law enforcement personnel.

These calls are consuming valuable time and resources, hindering our ability to respond effectively to legitimate emergency and non-emergency inquiries and support our community’s safety needs. Many of these disruptive calls have originated from blocked numbers, complicating efforts to address this issue.

To protect our dispatch operations and ensure the line remains available for genuine calls, the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office has implemented a new policy effective immediately: calls from blocked numbers will no longer be accepted on the non-emergency line. Callers are encouraged to use identifiable numbers when contacting our dispatch center.

Many of these calls are appear to be coming from out of state and out of our area of service.

“Our dispatchers work tirelessly to serve the public, and this behavior is unacceptable,” Sheriff Travis Stolley said. “We ask for the community’s cooperation in keeping our non-emergency line clear for those who need assistance. Abusing this line not only disrupts our operations but also impacts our ability to serve those in need.”

The non-emergency line is intended for reporting non-life-threatening incidents, seeking general information, or contacting the sheriff’s office for non-urgent matters. For emergencies, always dial 911.

We urge anyone with information about these abusive calls to contact the Boundary County Sheriff’s Office at (208) 267-3151.

The sheriff’s office is actively investigating these incidents and will pursue appropriate legal action against those found responsible.

We appreciate the community’s support and understanding as we work to maintain efficient and effective communication channels for all residents of Boundary County.
