Rhonna Jeanette Russell, a beloved wife, stepmother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Copeland, Idaho, on May 6, 2025. She was 65 years old. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Born on December 26, 1959, at Bonners Ferry Community Hospital, Rhonna brought warmth, strength and joy into the lives of everyone who knew her. She grew up in Bonners Ferry and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1978. In 1988, she moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where she built a life filled with adventure and resilience. She later returned to North Idaho, settling in Copeland, surrounded by the beauty of nature she cherished.
On February 25, 2005, Rhonna married the love of her life, Robert Russell, in Coeur d’Alene. Their marriage was one of deep companionship, shared laughter, love, and a commitment to making each day together count.
Rhonna’s greatest pride was her family. She was a devoted stepmother to Tyler Russell (Monique) and Kristina Scholten (Joe), and a proud grandmother to Shawn, Aulana, Cody, Kayson, Makenna and Mason. She is also survived by her dear sister, Sheri Pickford (Scott), and two nephews, Kyle and Brandon Bourland.
Rhonna is preceded in death by her loving parents, Thomas and Marie Becquart. Her mother’s heritage, the Obermayers, stems from homesteading in the Upper Yaak, Montana, Where the Overdale Lodge still provides lakeside and forest cabins for rent. This beautiful, serene place—often called “God’s Country”—was one of Rhonna’s most cherished places to visit.
She had a deep love for nature. Rhonna enjoyed huckleberry picking, mushroom hunting, fishing, and finding rocks along the river, which she always treasured. Her connection to the outdoors was an important part of who she was.
Rhonna also had a profound love for animals, especially dogs. She was the proud owner of a White German Shepherd named Bella, who held a special place in her heart. She also cared for two beloved cats, who brought her much comfort and companionship.
In addition to her love for animals and nature, Rhonna had a deep passion for gardening. She found joy and peace in tending to her flowers and vegetables—especially the tulips and roses, which she adored. Her garden was a reflection of her spirit: vibrant, nurturing, and full of life.
Rhonna will be remembered for her generous heart, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. Her legacy lives on in the stories shared by family, the values she instilled, and the love that continues to ripple through generations.

I’m so sad to hear of Rhonnas passing. She was such a great person and dear friend. I have many wonderful memories of the happy times we had when we lived in Moyie Springs. She could always make me laugh and was so fun to be around. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.
