After being nominated by Senator Mike Crapo for the U.S. Naval Academy in 2024, Ana Chase has officially completed her training at the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Newport Rhode Island and has accepted her appointment to the United States Naval Academy.
“After accepting my appointment to the Naval Academy Preparatory School over a year ago, I moved my life to Newport, Rhode Island, and began with three weeks of military indoctrination,” she said. “After indoctrination was over, the academic year began. academics at NAPS is structured to prepare midshipmen candidates for success at the United States Naval Academy, so I took only core classes such as chemistry, physics, English and math at an intermediate level.
“I finished the academic year on the Superintendent’s List (3.9 GPA). In addition to academics, I spent time developing myself physically, showing improvement on each PRT (Physical Readiness Test). Most importantly, I had the opportunity to meet many successful, high-ranking officers who shared their insight on their time at the Naval Academy and in the fleet.

“I am immensely grateful for my time at NAPS, it was a rare opportunity to be offered. Although the winter was long, cold, and windy I made some of the best memories with people who are now my closest friends.
“Luckily, all of my shipmates from NAPS will be with me for the next four years and we will be showing up for our second Indoctrination Day together, this time at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, on June 24.
“This time indoctrination, otherwise known as Plebe Summer, will be six weeks and encompass more rigorous fitness as well as sailing, obstacles courses, marksmanship etc. I am very excited for Plebe Summer, as well as to be reunited with my shipmates.
“I will be at USNA for four years, graduating and earning my commission as an Ensign in the US Navy or Second Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps in May 2029.
“The United States Naval Academy had 15,149 total applicants last year. 1,183 were admitted; only 371 being women. Thank you to the Bonners Ferry community for supporting me this far! I hope to see more young men and women pursue Service Academies; they provide a fully funded undergraduate education, leadership development, and invaluable career opportunities.
“While I am not sure which STEM Major I will be choosing or what Naval Community I want to commission into, I am going to take full advantage of these next four years to find my true passions.”
Congratulations Ana !!!!!!
Way to go Ana and so proud of you
