Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge staff will be conducting habitat restoration throughout the refuge and improving existing visitor amenities throughout the summer.
To keep people and wildlife safe, some areas of the refuge will be closed to visitors during the restoration work. Starting June 16, the 4.6 mile auto-tour route, east parking lot on Riverside Road, and the north end of Deep Creek Trail will be closed to all access until further notice.
The south end of Deep Creek Trail will remain open to hikers and walkers with dogs on leashes. All other refuge facilities will remain open through the summer, including the public bathrooms, picnic areas, and office.
Please check the refuge website before visiting for more details about the temporary closures, including a detailed map. The refuge is planning to reopen these areas in the fall of 2025.
