Imagine a neighborhood block party in a small, far North Idaho town. Children are frolicking about, and moms and dads are scurrying back and forth between the kitchen and the back yard; shuffling trays of food and coolers of drinks preparing for the weekly friends and family summer get together. The hub; the center of the gathering, a large cable spool sprawled with plastic flatware, drink dispensers and paper plates. The heart, the nucleus if you will, of not just the gathering, but the core idea of the family. Steady, strong, constant.
Spool Effect.
Kevin Dye, Tyler Pearson and Luke Zohn make up what is known as the band Spool Effect. Manifested from the minds and heart of its members, Spool Effect isn’t just band. It’s a family and a culture. It is wives selling t-shirts and kids being roadies. It is playing music and feeling music. It’s doing life together.
“What kind of music do you play?” many ask the band. The answer is vast. Kevin Dye the front man, says it like this, “We’re all over the place. We play reggae, improv jam and well, we just play music. It’s different and fun. It’s family friendly and if you like to dance, dance. We’ll play for you! Music is about expression and if you play music, it’s in you forever.”
Spool Effect has been a band since 2022. After years of each of them being in different bands and worship teams, now they’re home. It’s a family affair.
The guys enjoy playing for parties and traveling to play gigs out of town. They love to practice their art and just “jam” together.
Spool Effect is excited to grace the stage of the Boundary County Fairgrounds indoor arena in the next of the summer concert series on July 8, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This is a free event, so bring your chairs, bring your kids and wear your dancing shoes.
You can also see Spool Effect perform at the Blue Heron Cafe at the Samuels store at 486260 Highway 95 on July 19 at 6 p.m. and follow them on Facebook to see what’s next!
Luke,
It is so gratifying to see that you have found some supportive brothers to play music with! Music allows all of us to access feelings we may not always be able to feel. Fun music like yours can become the soundtrack of our lives. Keep up the great jammin’.
Always proud of you.
Uncle Joseph
