Idaho Transportation Department wants your feedback – updated

By the Idaho Transportation Department
We want your feedback on the draft Idaho Transportation Investment Program (ITIP) that outlines transportation priorities and guides investment decisions for the next seven years.
This is your chance to make a difference and enhance transportation in our state.
From July 1-31, we invite you to review the draft plan and provide your valuable comments.
The map attached displays planned projects for the next seven years. These projects are based on data we collect, like crash data, and input from people like you.
Comments collected July 1-31 will be shared with planning staff for changes to be made before the Idaho Transportation Board formally approves the plan this fall.
Visit itd.idaho.gov/funding to view an interactive map to learn about projects and submit a comment through the portal.

Comments can be emailed to itipcomments@itd.idaho.gov, recorded at (208) 334-8063 or mailed to:

ITIP – Comments
Attn: Noah Ipaye
P.O. Box 7129
Boise, ID 83707

Paper copies of the ITIP will be available at regional offices and provided upon request by contacting the Idaho Transportation Department at (208) 334-8284.

After approval by the Idaho Transportation Board in September, the ITIP will then be submitted to the Federal Highway Administration, the Federal Transit Administration, and the Environmental Protection Agency in October.

  1. Highway 95 is so scary now! I use to be afraid of deer running out in front of me, now I’m more afraid of crazy drivers who drive way too fast and have no patience for those of us going the speed limit.

Besides that, it’s so dangerous because there is no turn lane for those exiting the highway. 60 miles per hour and faster, tailgating, and not being able to see the blinker of a car a few cars ahead is killing a lot of people, especially in Naples, where I live.

I would like to see slower speeds, WAY stiffer penalties, and at least a center turn lane to get out of the way when you need to exit the highway.

  2. Lights on highway 95 from Sandpoint to Bonners Ferry. Snow plowing more often in Boundary County. Street lights in the city of Bonners Ferry. Traffic has increased so much up here it makes going to work or home not easy for my safety. Need more police patrol.
I know that some of these that I have mentioned are not your problem, but you need to hear them.

  3. There needs to be passing lanes added especially for south bound traffic between Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint. Lack of safe places encourages less than safe places to be used.

    1. Hi Dave! Please make sure you include your last name or email address. We appreciate that! Thanks! Katie

  4. I have had to travel between Good Grief and Bonners Ferry each week since we moved here 10 years ago.
I have to say that Hwy 95 is one of the most dangerous corridors I have seen, and I came from a much more populated area. Freeway speeds with no off ramps or turn lanes. Vast amounts of truck traffic that doesn’t think the speed limit is high enough, even in winter, and would sooner run you down than have to down shift. My daughter, while learning to drive, was literally run off the road by oncoming trucks her first two trips out. Pretty sure a lot of these truck drivers are “not from around here” if you know what I mean. They will ride your bumper for miles and you have to hope a deer doesn’t jump out or you have to make a left turn. 8 out of 10 cars that pass me up here are from Alberta. That’s the other problem. It’s kind of inconvenient, but I say leave the “break up” rules in place until something more permanent can be devised, or just flat lower the speed, especially for trucks, and then bust a few offenders every once in a while. I hope something will be done. Hearing about this wreck with these kids really hits home and has got me fired up.
