Bonners Ferry High School is set to host a dramatic and educational Mock DUI crash demonstration at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, at Bonners Ferry High School, 6485 Tamarack Lane.
Area residents may see emergency vehicles running lights and sirens, and a Life Flight helicopter landing on school grounds. The demonstration is intended to look very real, including injuries, but is completely staged.
The purpose of this event is to raise awareness about the devastating consequences of impaired driving among teenagers.
Students will bear witness to a staged car crash, featuring live action from first responders and peers playing the roles of accident victims. The scenario will be followed by a program highlighting the legal, emotional and physical impacts that impaired driving can have on individuals, families and communities.
The event will take place on school grounds and will involve the Bonners Ferry Police Department, Boundary County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho State Police, Bonners Ferry Fire Department, South Boundary Fire District, Paradise Valley Fire District, North Bench Fire Association, Boundary Ambulance, Life Flight Network, Bonners Ferry Funeral Home and Panhandle Towing.
This hands-on demonstration brings the reality of drunk and drugged driving right to the students, helping them recognize the serious, irreversible outcomes of bad decisions.
