Moyie Springs Completes New Sewer System Project

After more than six years of planning, coordination, and construction, the City of Moyie Springs has officially completed its long-awaited sewer system upgrade. The project was necessary after the city’s original system began to fail and could no longer be certified by the State of Idaho.

To bring the project to life, the city partnered with multiple agencies and secured significant funding from both state and federal grants. Even with this support, a portion of the multi-million-dollar project looks like it will be required for the city to use DEQ funding to complete the project to be repaid in the coming years.

The outcome is a modern, state-of-the-art sewer system that currently serves over 100 households and has the capacity to serve up to 200 households in the future. City officials emphasized that the new system not only ensures compliance with state requirements but also provides safe and reliable service for residents for decades to come.

With the system now in place, attention is turning to how the city will cover ongoing operating costs and bond repayments. Currently, residents pay $45 per month for sewer service. The City Council is considering raising that fee though leaders stress they are committed to keeping rates as affordable as possible while still meeting budget requirements.

“The completion of this project is a major milestone for our community,” officials said. “It ensures we have a safe, reliable system that will serve families for years to come.”

City leaders also note that now is the best time for future builders in the service area to purchase a sewer hookup. Beginning January 1, 2026, hookup fees will rise from the current $700 to over $4,000, a necessary adjustment to keep the system financially sustainable.
