Wind advisories have been issued for North Idaho and the Kootenai/Cabinet Region of northwest Montana this afternoon for sustained southwest winds in the 20 mile-per-hour range with gusts as high as 60-miles-per-hour possible.
The advisory in North Idaho is in effect from 1 to 11 p.m. today for expected sustained winds of 15 to 20 miles-per-hour and gusts of 40 to 50 miles-per-hour. At higher elevations, gusts up to 60 miles-per-hour are possible.
The advisory is in effect from Montana, from 2 p.m. to midnight today for sustained winds of 15 to 25 miles-per-hour with gusts in excess of 40 miles-per-hour probable.
Such winds can blow around unsecured objects, blow down tree limbs and topple trees, causing power outages and blocking roads. Travel is likely to be difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles.
