Family adventure ends in tragedy

Cooper and Jessica

A Bonners Ferry woman and her daughter are facing immeasurable grief after an exciting zip-line excursion turned tragic while on vacation at an eco-adventure resort near Luang Prabang on the Mekong River in Laos.

Dan Owen

Daniel Owen, 47, director of the Quality Schools International in Vietnam, and his son Cooper, 15, adventurers both, were zip-lining October 15 when they were assailed by an untold number of Asian giant hornets. Both suffered more than 100 stings as rescuers tried to bring them down from the trees.

Neither survived.

Nancy Wycoff, Bonners Ferry, is in Viet Nam with her daughter, Jessica Owens, Daniel’s beloved wife, Cooper’s loving mother.
