For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Idaho College of Agricultural and Life Sciences Soil Judging Team won the Northwest Regional Soil Judging Contest, and the reigning champs, to include U of I senior Sky Reinhardt, a senior agricultural systems management major from Bonners Ferry, are on their way to defend their title.
In addition to placing first in the group judging event, all six U of I judges placed in the top half of participants in individual judging.
Tegan Macy, a senior crop science major from Culver, Oregon, placed first in individual judging, Connor Bryant, a senior rangeland ecology and management major from Tucson, placed sixth in individual judging. Other team members include Isaac Bestebreur, a senior rangeland ecology and management major from Prosser, Washington, Logan Mann, a senior environmental soil science and chemistry double major from Littleton, Colorado, and Daniel Middelhoven, a junior crop management major from Nampa.
Reinhardt tied for second place in individual judging.
The team is coached by Paul Tietz, MaryBeth Gavin and Nabila Wildman. Robert Heinse, head of the Department of Soil and Water Systems, is the advisor.
The finals take place March 22-27 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Congratulations Sky! Now you’ll have to bone up on the Ultisols of the North Carolina Piedmont! You’ll need to use the 5YR page of the Munsel Chart.
