Snow, rain, sleet can’t dampen Turkey Trot spirits

Despite the first significant snow of the season making a wet, cold and gray appearance Thanksgiving morning, the snowy weather, soon mixed with sleet and rain as the temperature hovered just above and around freezing, couldn’t dampen the spirits or dim the smiles that lit the rosy-cheeked faces of the 452 who ran or walked the 2025 Turkey Trot.

No times were kept for this, the 17th annual Turkey Trot 5/10K fun run, but run founder and organizer Carolyn Birrell did track some highly significant details.

Participants ate a dozen Costco pumpkin pies and quaffed 10 gallons of hot cocoa, and they emptied six large cans of Redi-Whip and they fair inhaled five bags of mini-marshmallows.

Eight pots of coffee warmed noses and bellies, their food truck was filled for delivery to the Food Bank Monday.

It was, Carolyn said, an incredibly humbling morning.

In addition to the brave and intrepid runners and walkers, Carolyn expressed her gratitude to the volunteers without whom such an endeavor would never take place.

Thanks also go out to the many generous business owners and individuals who dig deep each year to provide the prizes that make the smiles even bigger.
