The annual Backwoods Brawl between rival schools Timberlake and Bonners Ferry Badgers is one for the books. Though the Badgers did not win the coveted brawl trophy this year, they did have a monumental game. Asher Williams, with assistance from his teammates, took the court by storm and put an unsurpassed 50 points on the board.
“They are a well-oiled machine.” one fan said of the Badgers. “They just keep feeding Asher the ball! He took control of the game and beat the Tigers!”
“Asher has worked really hard all his life to achieve some of his milestones in the game of basketball. He is dedicated and truly enjoys the challenge. I’m very happy that he got this opportunity and that our team is so supportive of each other. This group of young men are so talented, yet unselfish. It is what makes them fun to coach and cheer for. Asher would like to thank his teammates, coaches and God for their support. He is very grateful and so happy he has grown up in Bonners Ferry and for the opportunity to be a part of this team.” – Nathan Williams
Thomas Bateman added 10 points, Eli Blackmore came in with five and both Brody Rice and Peyton Hinthorn contributed four points each.
Notably, the Badgers were eight for eight in free throws on their way to a 73-28 win.
The girls fought a good fight but lost the race this afternoon 24-63. Sydney Hinthorn led the Badgers in scoring with nine points followed by Nolie Hiatt with eight and Eva Willis with four.
