Sunday was a long, hard-fought day for the Badgers. The five-on-five and seven-on-seven youth football tournament in Sandpoint started at 8:30 a.m. and went on throughout the day with Badger fans, in true Badger fashion, filling the stands to show their support.

41 teams throughout the region filled the Sandpoint Memorial Stadium to represent the next generation of high school and college football players.

With nine teams in the region represented in the seven-on-seven, the third and fourth grade Bonners Ferry Blue and White teams played three tough games but came up short in all three.

The third and fourth grade combo team may have lost in the seven-on-seven, but they dominated in the trenches with first and second place in the five-on-five.

The fifth and sixth grade combo team went 1-2 on the day in the seven-on-seven with 16 teams represented. They fought hard in the five-on-five, but did not place.

The seventh and eighth grade combo team had two teams competing in the seven-on-seven with 16 teams in the competition. The Blue team went 2-1 and the White team went 1-2.

Both seventh and eighth grade teams competed in the five-on-five with the White team finishing 2nd overall.

The competition is tough each level, but especially tough at the seventh and eighth grade level. As coaches, we split the team to allow more reps and plays for each player to show them that hard work and dedication will pay off in the fall for the tackle football season and into the next stages of their football careers.
