Prepare yourself for the funniest movie you have ever seen! The Pearl Theater is thrilled to be hosting the North Idaho premier of Hundreds of Beavers, the comedy cult hit of the 2023 festival circuit. In this 19th century, supernatural winter epic, a drunken applejack salesman must go from zero to hero and become the greatest fur trapper by defeating hundreds of beavers.
In the film, all animals are played by puppets or mascot costumes, resulting in a bizarre concoction that’s part Funniest Home Videos, part Buster Keaton, part Looney Tunes. It has to be seen to be believed!
Directed by Mike Cheslik and written by Cheslik and Ryland Brickson Cole Tews, the film stars Tews as applejack maker Jean Kayak, who is in a conflict with beavers and trying to win the hand of a merchant’s daughter. Kayak finds himself stranded in a surreal winter landscape with nothing but his dim wits to guide him.
Against a backdrop of ruthless elements and sinister creatures – all played by actors in full-sized mascot costumes – Kayak develops increasingly complex traps in order to win the hand of a mischievous lover.
Rotten Tomatoes reviewers gave the film an average rating of 8.3/10, writing, “Sustaining a zany premise with stylistic bravura and inspired gags, Hundreds of Beavers is a comedic gem that gives a dam.”
The Pearl Lounge will be serving up movie-themed cocktails and mocktails and as always, a $2 beer special.
Hundreds of Beavers, One Night Only! 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 7, The Pearl Theater, 7160 Ash Street, Bonners Ferry. Tickets are $10, available online. Seating for this epic show is limited to 50, advance tickets are recommended.
