Beloved wife and mother Joan M. Britt passed away July 11, 2024. Joan’s remains will be interred at the Britt Family Cemetery on the Britt property. A celebration of life party will be held at the Britt residence starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 24. All her friends and family are encouraged to attend.
Joan was born February 4, 1947, in Jamaica, New York, to Maurice and Winifred Montesano. She moved with her family to East Islip when she was a freshman in high school. There she met her future and forever husband, Russell J. Britt. They graduated in 1965 and married on July 10, 1967. Their son Russell J. Britt Jr. was born March 8, 1971.
Yearning for a simpler life, they moved out west. First to Colorado before finally settling in Naples in 1980, where they homesteaded, living off-grid and creating a lifetime of memories.
Joan was an awesome mother and loving spouse. She was always there for all of us with kindness and compassion. She had no enemies and many friends. She always enjoyed time spent with family. Joan was an amazing person, vibrant and full of life. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to be graced by her presence.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Winifred Montesano, brother Marty Montesano and her niece Patricia Montesano. She is survived by her husband, Russell J. Britt, son Russell J. Britt Jr. and grandson Russell J. Britt 3rd (Rusty), and granddaughter Krystal D. Williams along with nephews Robert Montesano and Jimmy Montesano.
It’s hard to know how to say goodbye to a beloved friend of 40 years-Joan wasn’t just a friend she was a sister in spirit. I’ll miss everything about her and I’ll miss everything we shared, from birthdays to life experiences. We loved and supported each other through the years regardless of political differences or time spend apart because we both knew our friendship was greater than those things. Joan was loving and giving to a fault and our community and the world is a much poorer place without her in it
