Water woes hamper refuge duck hunts

Water woes continue to plague Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge with the one remaining pump not operating at full capacity. The south end of the managed waterfowl hunt has achieved desirable water levels in South, Teal and Widgeon units. However, the Greenhead unit north of Riverside Road is slowly filling and is only a quarter full.

Neither blind in Greenhead have water surrounding them. Thus, a temporary blind has been placed on the north end of the Greenhead unit. The blind can accommodate up to three hunters. Hunters with mobility issues should call the Refuge to reserve the temporary blind and be permitted parking access adjacent to the levee road on the auto-tour route. All other hunters may access the blind if not reserved, from the hunter parking lot via the east parking lot, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
