Vote for country

I recently read an interesting op/ed that speculated that at no other time in our nation’s history does the US have 1) the largest number of “stupid” legislators in elected office and, 2) the largest population of “stupid” voters.

It is rather unbelievable, the mental incapacitation and decline which exists today in the current general population. Paranoia, delusion, derangement, religious fanaticism – all add to this situation. Certainly, the Internet, social media, Fox News, NewsMax bear much of the responsibility.

Is a large segment of the population just gullible? Just naïve? Insecure? Apathetic? Uninformed? Disengaged? Or really just plain stupid?

I don’t know, but there is no doubt that many voters are incapable of making rational, informed decisions.

The MAGA people tend to fit this characterization, though I know a lot of them and they are not stupid. I am dismayed and befuddled how they can support a candidate like Trump, who has almost no redeeming qualities or virtues. He is a little boy-bully stuck in a 78-year-old man’s body. Trump’s character insults all Americans, no matter what political party. His demeaning, disparaging, maligning and never-ending blatant lying is the new “norm” for presidential races.

Really?

Trump’s willful destruction of faith in our fundamental government institutions is both pathetic and treasonous. MAGA support is a huge cult. The MAGA leadership are master con artists, and they know exactly how to take advantage and abuse these snookered followers.

It is so perplexing to me that these poor cult followers will believe the Trump lies and deceit, when the truth is so obvious.

This election year, we need to vote for our country and completely ignore party lines. Vote for good people with good intentions, no matter their political affiliation.

Vote for people who will truly represent the people and will protect our government. It is okay for a staunch Republican such as myself to vote for a “Liberal” Democrat. The Democrat presidential candidate has vowed to maintain our great free country while the Republican candidate favors an oppressive, tyrannical dictatorship.

You may not like the Harris policies or her vision for America, but she won’t threaten the press, demean immigrants, mock or have disdain for our military, rape and slander women (or men), continuously lie to the American people, cater to billionaire jerks who live on government contracts, break alliances with our long-term allies, or, most importantly, undermine our Constitution.
I have never voted for a Democrat in my life but will vote for many this year, knowing I am doing the right thing to protect our country.

After more than eight decades of a long, good life here in the United States, I cannot fathom how so many of my fellow citizens have turned a blind eye to what should be their first priority in this election: loyalty and allegiance to our democratic ideals.

  1. Amen, Mr. Sullivan
Your words are an eloquent reflection of the private thoughts of many. I pray this group will
put private action to their private thoughts and vote.
