An election that will go down in history

By Mike Weland

Like much of the nation, turnout was high in Boundary County, with 88-percent casting ballots as voters nationwide moved the political pendulum farther to the right in Tuesday’s election. Local voters killed both the school levy and the bond, trounced Proposition 1 and chose to send Donald J. Trump back to the White House. For moderates, perhaps the only bright spot is that Republican Jim Woodward, who ousted the radical Scott Herndon from his old Idaho Senate seat in the primary, defeated right wing Independent challenger Dan Rose handily, 4,967 to 1,888.

Mark Sauter retained District 1 Seat A in the Idaho House, defeating Democratic challenger Karen Matthee 5,742 to 960 and the Idaho Freedom Foundation gained another seat, with Conservative Republican Cornel Rasor garnering 5,512 Boundary County votes to Democrat Kathryn Larson’s 1,311.

The hardest hurt in Boundary County are the children of parents who choose to have their children educated in District 101 public schools that have a long tradition of excellence on a shoestring, especially students who attend Valley View Elementary.

At 70 years old and rated one of the most dilapidated school buildings in the state of Idaho, Valley View was built in part with top-of-the-line U.S. government materials left over from the palatial estates enjoyed by thousands of U.S. Navy recruits who attended boot camp at Farragut Naval Station in preparation for embarking aboard luxury liners to exotic theaters of global war.

Not only will they not be able to look forward to a warm and safe building to go to in a year or two with 3,708 voting “no” to 3,218 voting “yes,” they can look forward to two years without local maintenance and operation funds, 3,766 voting no to 3,241 yes votes … no duct tape or baling wire to fix whatever might break between now and then.

For president, 5,794 Boundary County voters opted to return Donald J. Trump to the White House, with 1,145 voting for Harris. Nationwide, Trump and the far right pulled off an election miracle, owning the libs by sending a twice impeached convicted felon to the White House, this time armed with a Supreme Court writ of immunity from criminal prosecution and a promise to go after immigrants and the “enemies within,” ie Democrats, liberals, journalists and other American citizens who refused to believe his myriad lies and propaganda, floating the idea using our nation’s military might against her own citizens to Make America Great Again.

Proposition 1 fell in Boundary County, 5,710 to 1,298 and likewise across the state 69.7-percent to 30.3-percent.

Touted as the most consequential U.S. election since 1860, the election of 2024 does promise interesting times ahead.

  1. Mike – do you know the reason we voted this way? If you don’t, then you will just keep posting dumb crap on this loser blog (it’s not news BTW). If you do figure it out, then you will turn right-wing and be pro-common sense instead of a leftist degenerate.

    1. No, Too Much, I don’t. It reminds me of the gent who escaped a Jeff Dahmer dinner party for two after Dahmer’s first bite, only to go back a second time after Dahmer tells you how he intends to cook you and you think, “hmm, that sounds good!”

No, sir, it makes no sense to me that the most privileged class in the world’s richest nation could be so disaffected, so oppressed as to accept the lies of a born-again loser of no talent and less accomplishment who tells you it’s okay to hate, that it’s okay to vilify and berate your neighbors, that you’re a little more equal and so deserve the perks of superiority.

It’s not winning, Mr. Much, quite the opposite. We who you’ve made your “enemies within” aren’t cowed by the smug, self-centered gloating, we’re saddened that all the slow, painful progress made over centuries to form a more perfect union, as defined by this nation’s constitution stands on the verge of collapse because a cult of the spoiled worry about being “replaced,” or that your particular religion needs to be sanctified by your government based only on your insistence it’s “the one true religion” of “the only true God.”

No, Winning Too, I don’t understand … but I believe the majority of you will soon come to wonder just what you were thinking to vote this way.

      1. The values you see as essential for advancing a more perfect union differ from us right-wingers. No need to refer to the Constitution. You interpret the Constitution the way you want, and I interpret it my way… you know… just like liberal judges do the same thing.

Let’s talk about hate. You liberals bring it up a lot, even though it’s you left-wingers that hate the most. Just learn this: hate is how you protect what you love, and without it, you cannot defend yourself. Think on this. Once you figure it out, you will see how essential hate is. It’s not a bad thing. Chill.

      2. Good Morning Mike.
Your a GOOD GUY since you’re posting unfavorable replies to your posts.
I’m sure you’re aware that DJT won the popular vote and will receive 312 Electoral Votes-wipeout!
In addition, more than enough Republicans were voted in for a solid Senate Majority.
Also Republicans have a excellent chance to take the House Majority.
The popular vote was achieved with votes from all ages & ethnicities AND WOMEN, urban and rural.
I have a hard time when People make disparaging statements about either parties SUPPORTERS like their experts in the political realm still runnin’ & gunnin’ and think their disparaging statements should be taken as absolutely factual.
        The most popular ones are:
        You’re misinformed
        You are White privileged
        That’s misinformation
You’re a racist and bigot with a new zinger added- masaginist.
I truly believe your posts would go much smoother if you were to start using 3 magic words:
        In my opinion.
        Cheers
        James Carr

  2. If you think the schools in this town are dilapidated, then you should see the low income senior housing apartments in this town with the bed bugs, black mold, rodents and vermin infestation, fences and building falling apart, etc. The town looks the other way along with the supposed non-profit that runs them. Maybe someone should call the USDA regarding these places? Well I guess it is out with the old and in with the new so hooray, let’s do something for the children……….

  3. It’s really hard to support the schools when you can’t afford to feed your family, add the fact that you homeschool your children and you have no interest in moving so property values are irrelevant. Maybe if schools spent more time teaching basic subjects and less time on social agendas more parents would send their children to school and see the value in upgrading schools. Until that happens school levels and bonds will continue to be voted down. As a homeowner is see the value in investing in local schools but I also see the other view also. The economy was the reason the election went the way it did, and being called names certainly didn’t change my vote

  4. Just wondering …. when and how much did that nice gym cost at valley view?
And where does the money go from logging on State owned land ? why do we always have to go into debt to fund schools
There has got to be a better way to fund schools
A tax on a future value is so wrong what happens when value goes down?

I do not know what the answer is but there has got to be a better way to fund schools
    ….
