The Badger boys dominated Kellogg in the opening game of a home doubleheader Wednesday, shutting out the Wildcats 9-0, but gave up the second game 8-3. The game was called in the seventh.
“I have been impressed this season with Wyatt and Thomas in left and center,” said Badger super fan Lisa Carle. “They have made some phenomenal catches out there sacrificing their bodies and laying out when necessary. I have been seeing some good things from our young guys coming up. Jack and Ryder at pitching and even Keenan behind the plate. Trey is a our senior leader and sets a great tone for the team. But what I love the most is the continual showing of support at the games. Whether that means driving nearly three hours or sitting through frigid temps, we always have a great group of people coming out and giving their support. Bonners Ferry really does have the greatest fans!”
Trey Bateman, Thomas Bateman and Jesse Fess each had two runs for the Badgers, Brody Rice, Gavin Rider and Jack Woods each had one.
Woods pitched the entire game, striking out eight and giving up three hits and three walks.
The Badgers put up the only run in game the first inning of game two, but Kellogg answered with all four second inning runs. Both teams brought a runner home in the fifth, Kellogg scored three runs in the sixth and the Badgers could only answer with one in the seventh, when the game ended.
The Badgers play at home again at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 11, with St. Maries visiting, then a week off before they board the bus to take on Coeur d’Alene at 2 p.m. Monday, April 22.
