James Milton Yount, of Bend Oregon, went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 29, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Private services will be held at a later date.
Born December 31, 1938, to James and Iris Yount in a log cabin in Roundup, Montana. There he joined his sister June. He would eventually become one of 14 children with seven brothers and six sisters who each loved him dearly.
Jim first attended school in Chimacum, Washington, then Elmira, McArthur and Naples Elementary Schools. He graduated, with the class of 1957, from Bonners Ferry High School.
Jim loved anything with an engine and especially loved to make things go fast! He raced cars and was known from the tracks in Deer Park to those in Cranbrook, BC. He recently purchased an AMX race car and introduced his son Greg to the sport he loved so much. They enjoyed many hours together pursuing this new and renewed thrill.
Always ready to lend a hand, Jim began working with his dad at an early age. Siblings say he jumped right in to help skid logs as soon as his feet could touch the pedals of the CAT. He became an excellent mechanic and welder. He began a career with PGT ( Pacific Gas Transmission) and eventually retired after many years with the company.
In retirement he enjoyed exploring trails with friends and family from behind the wheel of his Polaris Razor. Family connections were important to Jim and he found great happiness in family gatherings. Reunions, birthdays, or just small groups sitting around a camp fire, those were his best times.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife Bonnie, parents James and Iris, and sister Margaret Norisada.
He is survived by his son James (Karen), daughters Vicki Yount, Leah (Pat) Shields, Teresa (Jerry) Enright, son Greg (Katie) Yount, many grandchildren and siblings June Dutson, Maxine Marshall, David (Connie) Yount, Pauline Bauman, Dale (Phyllis) Yount, Shirley (Lyle) Bartle, Kathy (Robert) Wise, Jack (Shelley) Yount, Rob Yount, Darrell (Jan) Yount, Chris (Ann) Yount and Ken (Alisa) Yount.
He is greatly loved and will be greatly missed!
