Middle School Girls Wrestling competes in districts

The Boundary County Middle School girls wrestling team competed in districts last night in Priest River. As a team the lady Badgers finished in fourth place out of 14 schools.

Four Badgers took home some hardware at the district championship. Jeliah Furtado placed first, and second place finishes were Rachel Roeser, Emily Hart, and Ellie Drake.

The Moscow Bears took home the gold; second place went to the Kellogg Wildcats and third was the Sandpoint Bulldogs.

“It was a great season for the girls.” Coach Karl Green said, “The girls definitely did us proud with their hard work and dedication this season. It was a huge accomplishment competing against bigger schools in the district tournament. Our girls didn’t get the opportunity to wrestle many girls during the regular season and had to wrestle against boys as other schools didn’t have many girl wrestlers. It was nice to see us end the season with 13 girls on the wrestling team as girls wrestling is the fastest growing sport in the county. We look forward to what the 8th graders can do in high school next season. The boys have districts tomorrow and they have some big shoes to fill as the girls have set the bar high with their performance.”

The Badgers were coached by Brandon Regehr and Karl Green with assistant Ezera Riek.

The Boundary County Middle School boys wrestling team will compete in Priest River today for the district championship. Results to follow.
