Boundary County Middle School teacher Kelly Hinthorn attended the North Idaho Athletic Hall of Fame awards banquet at the Coeur d’Alene Resort Saturday night, where Bonners Ferry Badger student athletes shone among the brightest.
“Congratulations to all who were nominated and to those who took home the trophies!,” she said. “To be nominated is an honor, but to win … so amazing! North Idaho and BFHS definitely have some talented student athletes!”
Among the night’s honorees, she said, were Trey Bateman, 1A-3A co-athlete of the year and the Bonners Ferry Badger boys basketball team, Idaho’s 2024 State 3A champions, named co-team of the year.
“I’ve loved every minute the past four years watching Trey pour his heart and soul into representing the Badger uniform,” Mrs. Hinthorn said. “So happy he was selected as the Male Athlete of the Year!”
Asha Abubakari won female track athlete of the year, Braylynn Bayer female golf athlete of the year for the second year in a row, Asher Williams male basketball athlete of the year.
Along with athletic performance honors, the fourth annual Duane Hagadone High Character Award winners were announced at the banquet. Named after Duane Hagadone, who founded the North Idaho Hall of Fame 62 years ago, it recognizes a male and female student-athlete from each school who excels in the classroom and as a teammate, has outstanding work ethic and integrity, displays sportsmanship and true character in all walks of life, and is just an all-around good individual. From Bonners Ferry, Chandler Swanson and Lindsey Onstott were honored.
The full list of honors was published in today’s Coeur d’Alene Press. Our thanks to Mrs. Hinthorn for sharing news and photos of her experience.
