Avalanche warning in effect

The North Idaho Avalanche Center, Sandpoint, has issued a backcountry avalanche warning for Boundary and Bonner Counties in effect through 6:30 a.m. Monday due to warming temperatures and sunshine that will weaken the snow pack, causing natural and human triggered avalanches to become very likely.

Loose surface snow will slide easily with potential to trigger deeper weak layers in the snowpack, creating large and destructive avalanches in steep terrain.

Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Avalanches may run long distances and can run into mature forests, valley floors or flat terrain.
